Production Engineering Measure for Optical Pumps for Lasers.

Abstract

The program is directed towards establishing a capability for manufacturing flashlamps to be used as optical pumps in liquid cooled and gas cooled laser systems. This report describes the work carried out during the third quarter of the program. Testing was carried out on the fully developed liquid cooled lamps (Pump 1). Samples of a near optimal design of a gas cooled lamp (Pump 2) were fabricated and tested. First Engineering Test Samples (ETS) of Pump 1 Pump 2 have been submitted for evaluation. Modifications to the GFP unit designated for fluorescent analysis measurements were completed. Additional modifications have been made to the high speed data acquisition and recording system supplied by ILC. The ILC laser to be used for testing Pump 1 was evaluated for efficiency. A shock and vibration fixture has been designed and completed for testing Pump 2. Engineering drawings for Pump 1 and Pump 2 have been completed. A production route sheet that is used in the manufacture of the lamps has been completed. (Author)
