Acoustic Pulse Compression Filters.

Abstract

The report summarizes the development of a set of surface acoustic wave dispersive filters having an expanded pulse length of 80 microsec. and a recompressed pulse width of less than 100 nsec. After investigating the performance characteristics of devices made with conventional dispersive transducers on bismuth germainium oxide and lithium niobate substrates it was concluded that the low distortion levels desired for these devices could best be realized using reflective array compressor(RAC) delay lines. The subsequent design and development of the RAC devices are described together with a detail account of their performance in an experimental pulse compression test loop. (Author)
