Geometrical Optics of Plasma Optical Systems,

Abstract

The authors state the following: (1) It is theoretically possible to focus quasi-neutral ion beams by means of static electromagnetic fields; (2) The optical properties of plasma systems differ to a great extent from vacuum systems, which enables one to create plasma systems which have no analogs among the vacuum systems; (3) Making the force fields in plasma systems equipotential makes it possible to vary the distribution of the electrical potential in the system over broad limits, thus enabling considerable change in the optical properties.
