Nephelometer for Mapping of Backscatter and Attenuation Coefficients of Clouds.

Abstract

The performance of a backscatter nephelometer in the mapping of aerosol attenuation and backscatter coefficients is evaluated. This instrument, coupled with an automated data processing technique described, performs quite satisfactorily and provides an excellent means of cloud data gathering and optical fuze test support. In addition, some parameter profiles of fair weather cumulus clouds observed in flight tests are presented.
