The Attitudes of Professional Federal Employees Toward Unions; A Study of Scientists and Engineers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to survey the attitudes of scientists and engineers toward federal government employee unions and to compare these findings with previously stated opinions and findings expressed by several writers in the labor relations field concerning the attitudes of professionals toward labor unions. A questionnaire containing 29 items concerning attitudes and 31 involving demographic information was designed and sent to 774 individuals. An indication of great interest in this study became evident when over 71% of the questionnaires were returned, with most of them arriving within a week of the original mailing.
