On the Behavior of Turbulent Boundary Layers Near the Point of Zero Wall Shear.

Abstract

The turbulent boundary layer equations are integrated numerically in their differential form. The eddy viscosity model with a mixing length as refined by Van Driest and Cebeci is used. Results are checked against experimental data and accuracy is compared with predictions of similar methods. The flow is examined carefully in the neighborhood of the point of zero skin friction. It is found that this point is a singular point accompanied by all the familiar properties of the Goldstein singularity. (Author)
