Determination of the Relative Positions of Noncombining Electronic States of Diatomic Molecules. The Ground Electronic State of ZrO,

Abstract

The integrated absorption coefficients of the (0,0) bands for the transitions 'Sigma(+) - 'Sigma(+) and triplet Delta - triplet Delta of the ZrO molecule were studied in a plasma of a reflected shock wave. The integrated absorption coefficients were determined as a function of the shock wave temperature and the results confirm that the ground state of ZrO is X'Sigma(+) and that the next excited state is a triplet Delta at 1700 + or - 250/cm.
