Analysis of Satellite Recordings. Fine Structure Variations of Total Electron Content.

Abstract

Fine structure variations of total electron content of a quasi periodic nature were analyzed for the period June 1971 to April 1973. The observations are interpreted as ionospheric manifestations of internal gravity waves in the neutral atmosphere. A statistical connection is shown between ionospheric perturbations of a periodic nature and developing cyclonic systems in the troposphere which appear to act as source regions for internal gravity waves.
