Individual Differences as a Crucible in Theory Construction.

Abstract

The argument is advanced that nomothetic theory development in psychology would be enhanced if an individual-differences variable is initially identified with theoretical processes. Such identification allows an immediate test of the validity of the theoretical formulation since the individual-differences variable must predict performance of the subjects if the theory is to survive.
