Chemi-Ionization Reactions of Photo-Excited K Atoms.

Abstract

Ion production resulting from excitation of K atoms to m doublet P (m > or = 6) levels has been observed in mixtures of K with various species. Mass spectrometric data provide direct evidence for the occurrence of K(m doublet P) + K(4 doublet S) to K2(+) + e(-) and are consistent with the formation of unstable KX(+) ions from K(m doublet P) + X to KX(+) + e(-) for X = C2H4, CH4, N2.
