HIGH-PRESSURE, PACKAGED, DIESEL-ENGINE-DRIVEN PUMP UNIT FOR 12-INCH PETROLEUM PIPELINES (1500 HP).

Abstract

The report evaluates the deficiencies and shortcomings found during Engineer Design Tests, Engineer Tests and Service Tests of a compression ignition engine-driven packaged pump unit for 12-inch petroleum pipelines (1500 horsepower); and discusses the design changes made to correct problem areas. Report concludes: (1) On the basis of Engineer Design Tests, Engineer Tests, Service Tests, and additional noise level tests made by the U. S. Army Human Engineering Laboratories (USAHEL), the prototype, 12-inch, high pressure packaged pipeline pump unit meets the basic technical requirements of the approved SDR, the technical characteristics, and the requirements of the Military Pipeline Study, and will permit full utilization, that is, application of maximum working pressure required by the coupled or welded 12-inch pipelines, at required throughput rates; (2) The packaged pump unit design improvements detailed by the current drawings are not of types requiring proving through further testing; (3) The packaged, 12-inch, diesel-engine-driven pipeline pump unit should be type classified as Standard A.
