Many aircraft components have been found adaptable to the basic shape concept. From the identified thirty-five candidate components, the following five were selected for the development and preliminary formulation of specifications: Stiffened Cylinder: Fuselage Shell; Heat Shield; Lift Surface Panel; Transparency; and Small Diameter Pressure Cylinders. A detailed format for the basic shape specification has been established, which consists of six major topics: TOPIC 1 Definitions; TOPIC 2 Environments; TOPIC 3 Specification Data; TOPIC 4 Presently Attainable and Target Capabilities; TOPIC 5 Assessment of Improvement Pay-Off; and TOPIC 6 Definition of R and D Requirements.
