SOME RESEARCH PERTAINING TO THE PROBLEM OF PREDICTING THE BURNING RATE OF CELLULOSIC FUELS.
Abstract
This report consists of two parts. The first part contains five sections, each section being devoted for a paper or note as below: (1) An X-ray Photographic Study of the Reaction Kinetics of alpha-cellulose decomposition. (2) Pyrolysis Effects in the Transfer of Heat and Mass in Thermally Decomposing Organic Solids. (3) A Scale Effect in the Pyrolysis of Solids. (4) A Transient Heating Technique for Measurement of the Thermal Diffusivity of Alpha-Cellulosic Materials. (5) Some Effects of Size, Orientation and Fuel Molecular Weight on the Burning of Fuel Soaked Wicks. The second part of the report is a compilation of two aspects of the work presently in progress: (6) Gross effects of Inhibitor Content in Alpha-Cellulose on Ignition, Active Pyrolysis and Extinction. (7) Study of the Secondary Pyrolysis in the Combustion of Woody Materials. A Survey of Porous Plug Reactor Literature and the Design of an Experimental Reactor.
