THIN FILM PHOTOVOLTAIC CELL ARRAY INVESTIGATION.

Abstract

Studies were continued in four principal areas: (1) improvements in cell efficiency and stability; (2) assembly of a 28-volt module; (3) construction of an array deployment demonstration section; (4) integrated thin film cell array. Stable, 4.0% efficiency cells can be made on a predictable, reproducible basis with the Cu2Te-barrier based on ambient storage tests. Significant improvement in cell stability under high temperature-air storage conditions has been observed on a few experimental CD/TE cells employing a Pt-Barrier. The 28-volt module and the array deployment demonstration section were completed. Design data have been taken. A 1-40 kw power array design study is about 80% completed. Some calculations and performance data are presented. The fabrication details of an integrated cell array have been completed. A few mechanical samples have been prepared to demonstrate process feasibility. (Author)
