COMPUTATION OF THE AIRFLOW ABOUT A SUPERSONIC PROJECTILE,
Abstract
This report deals with the computation of the rotational flow of a compressible fluid about a non-yawing projectile moving at supersonic speeds. Proceeding from a given headwave and using a net of characteristic curves it becomes possible to determine the flow and the shape of the projectile associated with the given headwave and the free stream ahead of it. While this method of approach was also suggested in BRL Report No. 571, the calculations were actually carried out on the basis of a greatly simplified procedure. The computations made thus far show that in order to insure good results it is necessary to start with physically meaningful headwaves. (Author)
