NARROW LINE ABSORPTION IN CACO3.

Abstract

This final report gives the results of an investigation on paramagnetic defect centers produced in x-, y-, and neutron irradiated single-crystal calcite. Electron spin resonance absorption spectroscopy was used to make a quantitative study of a number of paramagnetic centers with emphasis on their magnetic parameter, temperature stability, symmetries, lattice location, and interactions with their environment. The AsO3(2-), PO4(2-), CO3(-) and CO3(3-) molecule-ions are some of the defect centers produced in x- and y-irradiated calcite, while the PO3(2-) molecule-ion is one of the centers produced in neutron-irradiated calcite.
