PCM FRAME SYNCHRONIZATION CODE SELECTION,

Abstract

This document describes analyses performed by the Communications and Control Programs organization to select and optimal (approaching optimum) pulse code modulation frame synchronization code. Existing criteria (e.g., the Inter-Range Instrumentation Group Telemetry Standards) are only partially defining and very complex. This analysis combines these criteria with those of other authors and drives an optimal 28-bit code. Simplified criteria were established and a new technique of code selection was developed for any code length. This technique greatly expedites the selection of an optimal code.
