RESEARCH ON NEW TECHNIQUES IN ABSORPTION AND EMISSION SPECTROSCOPY.
Abstract
The studies on triethyl phosphate indicated that an emission spectrum could be obtained from organo-phosphorus compounds. However, studies on tri-n-butyl phosphate showed that control of sample pressure would present a problem. It appeared that traces of air in the hollow cathode did not eliminate the emission spectrum of organo-phosphorus compounds. Work on nitrous oxide emission revealed that an air spectrum was obtained from cathodes containing nitrous oxide, presumably from impurities in the system. Studies on the spectral absorption by organic phosphorus and nitrogen compounds has been inconclusive because of the instability of the emission sources over extended periods of time. The rf plasma has been installed and its method of operation is being checked out. (Author)
