TEST OF TM-21G ARRESTING GEAR AT LECHFELD, GERMANY (17 DECEMBER 1965 THROUGH 22 MARCH 1966).

Abstract

The TM-21G arresting gear was initially tested and evaluated with F-104G aircraft at NATF(SI) and then shipped to Germany for additional evaluation. Twenty-four F-104G aircraft arrestments were conducted in Germany to confirm that arresting-gear performance was the same as that obtained during the NATF(SI) test program, and to provide the necessary training to enable German personnel to install, operate, and maintain the complete site. The performance, however, was not duplicated. The arresting-hook-load limit of 61,000 pounds was reached at an engaging speed of 144 knots, whereas this level was reached at an engaging speed of 165 knots during NATF(SI) tests. (Author)
