Abstract

The purpose of the Maintainability Training Course is to familiarize design and design supervision personnel with the nature of the benefits to the customer and contractor of effective product maintainability, the need for its consideration as a design parameter, and the methods for its achievement. Specifically, the objectives of the course are to: Instruct the designer in the art of producing a maintainable product and to introduce the designer to: (1) The need for maintainability, (2) Military requirements for maintainability, (3) The maintainability program, (4) The definition, factors and principles of maintainability, (5) The elements and organization of Air Force Maintenance, (6) Methods of analyzing and measuring maintainability, (7) Procedures and methods for achieving maintainability, (8) Sources of maintainability data and assistance, and (9) The relationships and bases for tradeoff between maintainability and other system and design parameters.
