FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD ASSESSMENT AND PREVENTION TECHNIQUES FOR AIRCRAFT.

Abstract

This report is the third in a quarterly series on work being performed with aircraft type fuels and lubricants to determine their ignition or flammability characteristics for use in the prevention of possible fires or explosions. The work presented here is divided into two parts as follows: (1) Autoignition temperatures of lubricants at high pressures, (2) correlation of ignition temperature and oxidation rate data. A greater portion of effort during this period was spent on a classified problem; results of this work are given in separate classified reports.
