DESIGN OF HYDROGEN-OXYGEN CAPILLARY TYPE FUEL CELL.

Abstract

The adaptation of the capillary fuel cell to unmanned space mission electrical power requirements was the primary objective of this contract. The program was planned towards the further refinement and development of the fuel cell power system already designed in the previous contract phase. Work was carried out to improve fabrication techniques, quality control, and module design. Flight-type controls were developed and testing of laboratory prototypes and small stacks was accomplished. The new modules built were ground qualification tested. Contractually, the program tasks were achieved with the three prototype systems (three modules per system) which were designed, developed, and delivered, capable of producing the required 250 watts of continuous power and peaks of 400 watts.
