DESIGN TECHNIQUES FOR TEM NETWORKS.
Abstract
This report presents the results of an investigation to (1) develop compact wideband high-selectivity microwave band-stop and diplexing filters and (2) investigate new equivalent circuit techniques. Modern network synthesis methods, employing Richards' hyperbolic tangent transformation, are used as the basis of the investigation. A general theory of microwave filters with equal ripple response in both pass and stop bands is presented. A solution to the approximation problem is given and appropriate synthesis techniques and network realizations are described and evaluated. Detailed design procedures and experimental results are presented for a practical elliptic-function filter form capable of achieving extremely high selectivity in a very compact configuration. This filter, called the DIGITAL ELLIPTIC, can provide either band-pass or band-stop characteristics. A discussion of the application of DIGITAL ELLIPTIC component filters to diplexers is given.
