STATIC QUALIFICATION TEST OF ORBITAL EQUIPMENT SECTION.
Abstract
A test program was set up to provide data for the qualification of the Shroud, Orbital Equipment Rack, V-band, and the joint at Station 247. The basic specimen consisted of a Forward Section Orbital Equipment Rack, V-band Assembly, Shroud, and Nose Cone. The test vehicle was subjected to critical maximum airloads, maximum acceleration loads, post second stage cut-off loads, and Station 247 loads to 100 and 125 percent of design limit load. Maximum values of data for each test condition are summarized. Maximum accelerations versus frequency are summarized for the deployment test. Photographs and diagrams illustrate test details. Visual inspection of the specimen after various tests and after completion of the test program did not reveal any evidence of deformation or failure as a result of the tests.
