HALF MILLIMETER 'BACKWARD WAVE OSCILLATOR'.

Abstract

The final objective of this work is to construct a half-millimeter Backward Wave Oscillator, with a power level in the range of half-a-watt. In this second step, a new tube assembly has been completed and two models of a new gun construction have been made. Electron trajectories of a gun to deliver a beam of 0.07 mm in diameter have been plotted in electrolytic tank measurements and some hot tests have indicated that a useful electron beam of ten to thirteen milliamperes in the ten kilovolts range can be now reproduced. A new type of reserve cathode has been tested at an increased C.W. load density of sixty amperes per square centimeter over a period of two hundred hours. Experimental tubes tests have been started.
