WING X-7A (TV-14) - DETERMINATION OF DEFORMATION DUE TO FLIGHT LOADS,

Abstract

This report covers the measurement of the left wing of TV-14 for the purpose of determining the amount of permanent deformation resulting from high flight loads. Profile contour, bending and twisting deformations were determined at wing stations 35.000, 50.000, and 65.000. The wing was mounted in a structural steel fixture. The wing surface contour was measured by means of an inside micrometer from a fixed horizontal datum line established by the edge of a steel straight edge. Data is presented in the form of tables and graphs which indicate the amount of deformation measured. The data obtained is compared to the general structural deformations observed in previous loading tests of similar wings from TV-7 and TV-12. (Author)
