VALVE, PRESSURE RELIEF (M. C. MANUFACTURING COMPANY VALVE NO. MC-1612, SER. 101) EVALUATION TEST.

Abstract

A pressure relief valve for use in the X-7A Project missile nitrogen gas system is evaluated. The valve was set to relieve its full capacity flow at 3600 psi, and to reseat with dead-tight shut-off at 3000 psi. The valve was subjected to functional testing under environmental conditions at temperatures from -65 F to +200 F. The valve's pressure relief, flow, and shut-off characteristics varied from 1900 psi cracking, 17.3 scfm flow at 3700 psi, and 2800 psi reseat at -65 F, to 3216 psi cracking, 11.9 scfm flow at 3700 psi, and 2780 psi reseat, at +200 F. Following the initial tests, the valve was packaged and stored for seven days, after which it was retested to determine if the operating characteristics had shifted. There was no discernible evidence of a change in operation.
