VALVE, NITROGEN CUTOFF (DWG. NO. 1000364)- X7A SUITABILITY EVALUATION,

Abstract

The functional operation of the valve was investigated under environmental conditions for application to the X7A Nitrogen system. Performance of the valve under low temperature, high temperature, and acceleration loadings was evaluated as well as the effect of varied inlet pressures. The valve was further tested for leakage and minimum opening pressure. The valve, under test, was unique in that upon removal of the pin stop, the inlet pressure to the valve actuates the pintle to the open position. The present nitrogen slide valve uses a pair of springs to open it. The force required to close the valve was determined for various inlet pressures from 0 psi to 4000 psi while subjected to environmental conditions. The relationship of pressure drop to flow rate was obtained for different inlet pressures. This evaluation shows the valve to be satisfactory for use in the X7A Nitrogen system.
