DEVELOPMENT OF ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES FOR BELLOWS AND DIAPHRAGM DESIGN.

Abstract

A 2-1/2-year program has been undertaken to establish analytical design procedures, stress-analysis methods, techniques for manufacturing control, and other factors essential to the successful design and fabrication of metallic bellows and diaphragms. This report summarizes the following activities taking place during the first half of the program: (1) the selection and adaptation of a computer program for the stress analysis of bellows and diaphragms; (2) the parametric analysis of single- and double-ply formed bellows; (3) the inspection of single- and double-ply formed bellows; and (4) the design and fabrication of laboratory evaluation equipment.
