SPECIFICATION AND MAINTENANCE OF INTERPRETER PERFORMANCE.
Abstract
This report is the result of a one year study designed to obtain data on the performance of interpreters on tasks approximating those expected to be encountered in tactical interpretation centers. Specifically, it was desired to locate performance decrements during a normal work day and to determine the effects of introducing rest pauses at the appropriate times. Three individual experiments were conducted and analyses of variance performed. Results indicate that performance fluctuates in a manner that does not correlate with time over an eight hour work day. No definite decrement in performance was observed even in an extended work day (12 hours). (Author)
