SHOCK RESPONSE OF BEAMS WITH NON-LINEAR MATERIAL PROPERTIES.

Abstract

Results of a theoretical and experimental investigation of shock response of a cantilever beam carrying a tip mass are reported. The beams were loaded by striking the tip mass with a metal hammer. Both mild steel and a high alloy steel beam were tested. A theoretical analysis, using the measured force applied at the tip mass as input, was performed based on an assumed bilinear stress-strain relationhip, with accounting for unloading and reloading. Experimental and predicted strains are compared at two stations on the beam. (Author)
