CONSIDERATIONS LEADING TO A DEFINITION OF A TELEMETRY SYSTEM Z(FOR PROGRAM 698AA.)Z

Abstract

The report presents the results of a study of the factors affecting the selection of a telemetry system in a program devoted to placing a primate in orbit to ascertain the effects of prolonged exposure to weightlessness and radiation. Among the factors considered were data requirements, system operational limitations, the type of telemetry system (PAM/FM or FM/FM) that would satisfy system requirements, and costs. An FM/FM telemetry system is recommended on the basis that data handling for this will involve the pay out of recorded data rather than real-time data and that FM/FM will satisfy all program requirements at no added cost to the ground support complex required.
