RESEARCH ON RELAXATION PROCESSES IN MAGNETIC MATERIALS.

Abstract

An effort has been made to develop a highly sensitive technique for measuring a relatively weak longitudinal susceptibility in the presence of a strong transverse susceptibility. To this end the relationship between the longitudinal susceptibility and the cavity parameters (frequency shift and change in Q) has been evaluated on the basis of perturbation theory for TE102 resonators containing rod-shaped samples. Experimental results on porous, polycrystalline YIG rods indicate, however, that the transverse susceptibility (which is typically much larger than the longitudinal susceptibility) has an unexpectedly large influence on the outcome of the experiment, apparently because perturbation theory is not sufficiently accurate in the case under consideration.
