AN INTRODUCTION TO THE DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF WAR GAMES,
Abstract
The primary objective of this handbook is to introduce the War Game researcher to basic definitions and techniques of Experimental Design and provide basic background for methods that may facilitate in the design of an experiment and the analysis of results through the use of specific applications. The handbook does not intend to present theoretical discussions of experimental design and analysis. Only sufficient backup is provided to justify some of the examples used. A bibliography is included which affords theoretical and practical reference for readers wishing to pursue certain phases in greater detail. Throughout this text, various techniques of experimental design are illustrated by an application to examples of simulation studies that were conducted on several simulation models. This handbook is not an implication that experimental design techniques provide the key to analysis and interpretation of War Game Simulation Studies. Its only intent is to indicate that this tool of analysis should not be overlooked in attempts to provide more meaningful interpretation to computer output resulting from simulation studies.
