RENDEZVOUS AND STATION-KEEPING OPTICAL RADAR (RASKOR).

Abstract

The Rendezvous and Station-Keeping Optical Radar (RASKOR) system is an optical radar system utilizing GaAs injection lasers and solid-state optical detectors. The application of RASKOR is for aircraft rendezvous and station-keeping. The system is designed for use with cooperating targets, under conditions for which passive visual techniques are not adequate. RASKOR will automatically acquire a cooperative target within a window of 10 degrees (el) x 40 degrees (az) out to ranges of 60,000 feet. The required tracking accuracy is !1 degrees, and the range must de determined to an accuracy of !10 feet at ranges below 1,000 feet. In addition, the range rate must be computed to an accuracy of ! 3 knots. The system objectives are to be met using three GaAs injection laser transmitters--a 60 watt transmitter for long-range acquisition and track and two 2-watt transmitters for short-range operation.
