SUPER POWER BEAM TYPE SWITCH TUBE.

Abstract

The objective of this program is to perform experimental investigations to determine the design parameters for a super power beam type switch tube capable of voltage holdoff between 300 and 400 KV and switching currents between 350 and 1000 amperes for maximum pulse lengths of between 25 and 2000 microseconds. The approach selected was to design, fabricate and test a test vehicle which might approach some of the minimum operating parameters listed above. A linear beam tetrode was designed, fabricated and tested to voltages greater than 200 KV and switched peak currents in excess of 100 amperes at pulse lengths of several microseconds. Performance was below expectations in transconductance and in beam transmission through the screen grid. Further effort to improve performance in these areas is currently in progress. (Author)
