COMPILATION OF PAPERS PRESENTED AT A WORKSHOP ON CLINICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL UROLITHIASIS HELD AT THE NAVAL MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE NATIONAL NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER BETHESDA, MARYLAND ON 8 AND 9 JUNE 1965.

Abstract

Vesical calculus disease has been known to occur in many areas of the world from time immemorial. It is primarily a disease of children while renal lithiasis is more prone to be found in adults. The geographic distribution of the malady has changed with the passage of time and it now appears to occur mainly in children from relatively poor families in a number of the developing nations, particulatly in Asia, India, and the Middle East. This workshop was organized primarily to bring together investigators who have observed the problem of vesical calculus disease in various areas of the world and those who have worked on the experimental aspects of the malady. It is hoped that the experimental finding with laboratory animals will provide leads to elucidate the etiology of the disease in man. Exhaustive manuscripts were neither asked nor expected of the participants since discussion of the problem was the main objective of the workshop. The reports included in this brochure were designed merely to provide timely information and references concerning various factory which may play a role in the etiology of vesical calculus disease in children. The information included herein does not constitute publication and should not be quoted nor referenced.
