LITHIUM-NICKEL FLUORIDE SECONDARY BATTERY INVESTIGATION.
Abstract
It was learned that the previously employed technique of drying NiF2.4H2O with thionyl chloride was unsatisfactory. Preparation of anhydrous nickel fluoride is difficult and without sophisticated equipment, pure NiF2 is impossible. A new vendor can now supply anhydrous NiF2 of reasonable purity. Viscosity and conductivity studies of electrolytes using KPF6 as a solute are reported. All electrolytes appear to be weak in the sense that lambda versus square root of C plots are not straight lines. Equivalent conductances at infinite dilution are calculated for DMSO, acetonitrile, and nitromethane using KPF6 as a solute. (Author)
