STABLE FERRITES FOR R. F. APPLICATIONS
Abstract
The ferrite body being developed for this contract is a Ni-Zn material which has a Ni/Zn ratio equal to 1.5. Silicate mineral additions to this body, particularly bentonite, have generally improved the overall stability of mu and Q. The major exception to this is the behavior of Q in the temperature range below 25 C. In this range of temperature Q drops drastically. We have found silica and alumina either separately or together to be associated with this drop in Q. The reason for this behavior of Q has not yet been established. Indication of a two phase structure was obtained from Curie temperature curves fo Mu on silica, kaolin, bentonite and alumina containing bodies. Silica apparently goes mostly into the matrix material and a very small amount appears to enter the crystallite phase. Alumina does not appear to enter the crystallite phase except when substantial amounts of silica are present.
