300 MILLIWATT X-BAND TRIODE OSCILLATOR.

Abstract

The development of an X-band triode cavity oscillator capable of giving 300 mW of continuous-wave power output and covering a frequency range of 8.850 GHz to9.150 GHz with single shaft tuning is the objective of this program. Twenty-seven Y-1613 triodes were provided for evaluation. Tests on the inverted re-entrant circuit with these tubes showed that the desired frequency could not be reached with this circuit design. Anode seal temperature measurements were made in a conventional re-entrant circuit and an anode heat sink design was made which would permit this type cavity to be used. A change in the triode cathods contact structure gave a stronger cathode seal and provided a contact concentric with the anode as required by the cacity design. Three preliminary exploratory development models were shipped on schedule. A power output of 450 mW was obtained using an external feedback path. (Author)
