SYNTHETIC LINEAR POLYMERS, XIII. DEPENDENCE OF THE REFRACTION COEFFICIENT OF POLYMER HOMOLOGOUS COMPOUNDS ON THE MEAN MOLAR WEIGHT.
Abstract
The equation found by the author for a polymer homologous series was extended for further homologous series, and it was shown that the equation is valid not only for well defined individual compounds but for fractions with an average molar weight as well. The author also derived an equation and using the values of b' obtained for a certain polymer homologous series determined further molar refraction coefficient increments. The author suggests that the equation can be used for determining the molecular weight of polymer softeners in the first place and synthetic fibers in the second place--mainly polyamides and polyesters.
