OPERATOR METHOD OF SOLUTION FOR BEAMS ON AN ELASTIC FOUNDATION LOADED BY TRANSVERSE AND LONGITUDINAL FORCES (OPERATOROVY SPOSOB VYPOCTU NOSNIKOV NA PRUZNOM PODKLADE NAMAHANYCH SILAMI PRIECNYMI A PLOZDZNYMI).

Abstract

In this paper a method of solution for beams on an elastic foundation, loaded by a general transverse and a constant axial load, using a technique involving the use of operators is given. The derived nonhomogeneous, linear, fourth-order differential equation is solved according to Mikusinski's operational calculus. By choosing a suitable origin of the coordinate system, the number of constants of integration is reduced to two, even in the case of a general transverse loading. Another advantage of this method is that the entire calculation consists of finding the corresponding original functions for given loading shapes. In determining the coefficients, one proceeds from the characteristic equation of the desired differential equation according to the relation of the coefficients for both transverse and axial loading. In conclusion the method is illustrated by a practical example and a procedure for solving continuous beams resting or rigid or elastic intermediate supports. (Author)
