APPLICATION OF THE LAPLACE TRANSFORM AND THE THEORY OF STEP FUNCTIONS IN THE THEORY OF BEAMS WITH VARYING RIGIDITY (ZASTOSOWANIE TRANSFORMACJI LAPLACE'A I FUNKCJI SCHODKOWYCH W TEORII BELEK O ZMIENNEJ SZTYWNOSCI).

Abstract

By applying the theory of step functions and the Laplace transformation, a method is given for solving the differential equation derived on the grounds of the elementary bending theory and concerning the problem of a beam of variable rigidity. The solution methods are described. An example shows how the operational form of a solution can be used to solve a particular engineering problem. A method is proposed for solving boundary value problems. This method can be used to solve a boundary value problem without making the load on the beam precise. Owing to this, considerable generality and economy of labor is obtained in the computations of structural mechanics.
