A DUOPLASMATRON-ION SOURCE, ESPECIALLY FOR PRESSURE TANK VAN-DE-GRAAFF GENERATOR.

Abstract

A modified duoplasmatron source is described which is especially suited for utilization in Van-De-Graaff generators with small ionic currents. Special technical features of the source, are: air cooling, metal sealing, to about 100 V preaccelerated ions, LaB6 cathode. With a diaphragm diameter of 0.14 mm, hydrogen ion currents of 90 micro-angstroms are produced. With a diaphragm diameter of 0.65 mm, hydrogen ion currents of 6 m A result, and with a diaphragm diameter of 0.8 mm, argon ion currents of 2.5 m A result. (Author)
