TRANSACTIONS OF THE AERONAUTICS INSTITUTE (SELECTED ARTICLES).

Abstract

Two articles are presented. One is a short summary of operation of brushes in aircraft electrical equipment. It also gives the reasons for the rapid wearing of brushes at high altitudes, discusses the behavior of a protective boundary surface on the commutator, treatment or permeation of brushes with lubricants or slip agents, and a description of the laboratory equipment used in the study. The second article contains a brief outline of the theory of air lubricated thrust and journal bearings necessary for design purposes, and also a report of experiments and tests of which the object was to verify experimentally the computation methods of such bearings and their reliability.
