ELEVATED SITE MARKER BALLOON (INTERIM OR QUICK-FIX SYSTEM) (ACL 89/67).
Abstract
The elevated site marker balloon system consists of a helium (non-refillable) bottle, a meteorological balloon, a 150-foot monofilament nylon tether line, a xenon flashing light, and four balloon covers. Covers are dyed with fluorescent white, red, green, and orange to enhance daylight visibility. The balloon should be observable from aircraft flying at altitudes up to 2000 feet at slant ranges of 1 mile. A night capability is provided by the xenon flashing light. The marker can be used to mark forward limits of friendly forces and to provide a reference point for aerial resupply and target marking.
