APPARENT GENOMIC MAPPING OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS BY A NEW METHOD,

Abstract

A new method of mapping bacterial chromosomes has been developed. The method entails blockade of chromosomal replication by phenylethyl alcohol followed by periodic exposure of cells to nitrosoguanidine after release from the phenylethyl alcohol block. The positions of eight genes on the chromosome of Staphylococcus aureus have been defined by the new method. (Author)
