DIODE, MILLIMETER WAVE TYPE MIXER (3.2 MM).

Abstract

Initial experimental results are presented on the 47 to 94 GHz varactor doubler. An overall efficiency of 20% is achieved with an output power of 10 milliwatts. Successful demonstration of this final stage of multiplication plus the design goal of achieving a 5 GHz tuning range (91 to 96 GHz) with the solid state source make it desirable to design the complete 94 GHz source. A block diagram of the complete source is presented. It consists of several transistor stages with final power amplification being done at 290 MHz. This transistor driver is designed to produce an output power of 16.5 watts. A varactor multiplier chain, consisting of six stages, will follow the transistor driver. A broadband 3 dB directional coupler's design, fabrication and testing is described. The design procedure for developing this 3 dB Tchebyscheff coupler is presented. A unique process of electroforming a complete directional coupler sandwich is described. The electrical results obtained with the coupler are excellent. (Author)
