ANTENNA BROADBANDING EXPERIMENTS.

Abstract

Data rates on communications systems in the very low frequency (VLF) and low frequency (LF) ranges are restricted by the limited bandwidth available on practical antennas. This report describes the experimental results obtained in employing reactive networks and a solid state transmitter to enhance the effective bandwidth of Low Frequency transmitting antennas. Field tests demonstrated the effectiveness of this technique by means of PSK transmissions and narrow-band FM voice transmissions over an LF link. Bandwidth enhancement greater than 4:1 was achieved.
