TECHNIQUES FOR DATA HANDLING IN A UNIT RECORD PHOTOGRAPHIC DATA REDUCTION SYSTEM (PROJECT SCRAM).

Abstract

This report investigates the primary course of action to be considered in developing techniques which could be amalgamated with a group of equipments to fulfill the data handling requirements necessary to complement the operational use of photographic unit record chips. This concept was implemented and tested under Project SCRAM. This effort entailed the formulation of basic design concepts, derivation of specifications to insure maximum utilization of new equipment as well as equipment already in existence, and an operational analysis to determine the flow of materials and information consistent with the functions and scope of the system. The report also details several methods for providing an indexing-storage-retrieval system to be utilized for the storage and retrieval of aerial reconnaissance photographs, photo-interpretation keys, maps, and charts, as well as other auxiliary data used in support of the photographic extraction.
